Links To Pages of History of the Newsboy Cap and Flat Cap

The cap that originated sometime before the 20th century but became popular in the early 20th century amongst men and young boys. It was believed to be worn amongst all social classes, mostly middle and lower, but in upper classes, it was worn by wealthy golfers, drivers, and people for leisure activities like sports.

The very reason this cap got its name was its association with the boys who threw newspapers out onto the curbs or the yards of people’s homes. Those people came to be known as the “Newsboys”, or “Newsies”.

The latter alone is also the very title of the hit Broadway musical that revolves around the Newsboys’ Strike of 1899.

Over the more recent years, it seemed to have taken a spot of popularity amongst women as well, the same thing with the similar cap that is known also as the Flat Cap
