Ferris Wheel

My mood goes round and round

From happiness to despair,

I rise and fall before them all,

They scarcely notice I'm there.

Can't they see how it is?

I smile when you are here,

Torture it is, to look and not kiss

But you chase away my fear.

An aching look drops on my face,

When you are cold or gone.

I want to cry, but stay clear eyed,

Though everything seems wrong.

My heart is like the Ferris Wheel

Held together with spokes of steel,

It looks so placid going round,

But still it throws me up and down.

(Yes, I know, I was NOT "born under a rhyming planet")
