Baggage

To travel

Hopefully

is better

than to

arrive

it's said

and I

poor gypsy

keep moving

to keep

my hope

from running

away

coming

and going

seeking

and escaping

chasing my shadow

to make sure

I do not miss

my fabled ship

when it comes in

hoping

against hope

that opportunity

is somewhere

around the next

cliched corner

trying to find

a ticket

to the world

of human

feeling

from which I am

excluded

looking frantically

for the key

to the door

of life

that is hidden

in my own

baggage

somewhere

8/20/93
